Our Origin Story
I’ve always been drawn to creative stuff. In high school and early college, I messed around with music, made dumb music videos with my friends, and thought video and photography were really cool, but never thought I could actually make a career out of it. In my head, if you wanted to do this full-time, you had to be a Hollywood director, and that just felt so far out of reach.
I fell in love with the ministry of Hume Lake and worked there full-time for a few years. When I had the chance to work for the Joshua Wilderness Institute, Hume’s year-long discipleship program, the only open position was in media. They told me they’d hire me if I was willing to learn.
Only problem? I had never held a camera in my life. But I was determined to make it work.
So in 2017, I dove in headfirst. I absorbed every YouTube tutorial I could find, learned from friends, and figured it out on the job. I became obsessed; not just with cameras and gear, but with the whole world of storytelling. I spent three years at Joshua capturing what God was doing in students’ lives, telling their stories, and traveling with them to the Dominican Republic and Israel.
Then in 2020, I was apart of the Covid lay offs.
For a quick season, I did video work for a local church in Ventura County, but before long, I found myself back at Hume. This time, I was leading the video team for their marketing department. For three years, I learned how to tell bigger stories, poured into my team, and got to be part of some incredible projects.
Why We Started Wyld Story
In 2024, Alyssa and I decided it was time to step out on our own. We had job opportunities with other video companies, but deep down, we knew we wanted to build something ourselves. We’d seen friends do it successfully, and we figured, if not now, when?
So we went for it. Now we’re based here in San Clemente, California doing video production for brands, ministries, and non-profits. We also offer our photography and videography services for weddings.
Wyld Story was born out of a love for storytelling; the kind that has real impact. The kind that isn’t just about making something look cool, but actually means something.
Yes we spelled “Wyld” with a Y because “Wild Story” was already taken, but it works also because we love getting into the “why” of every story. The passion, the mission, the heartbeat behind what people do. We believe people connect with a story when they understand why it matters.
“Wyld” is also a subtle nod to our love for the outdoors. Some of the best stories happen outside, on the road, in the mountains, in the quiet places where life slows down enough for you to actually take it in.
The Heart Behind What We Do
Starting our own business wasn’t about getting rich or building some huge agency. It was about doing meaningful work, telling stories that matter, and making sure our clients felt heard. We wanted to stay small enough to keep things personal, but skilled enough to deliver top-tier work.
At the end of the day, we believe the wyldest stories, the ones worth telling, are the ones that have Kingdom impact. The ones where Jesus changes lives. That’s the kind of work we want to be a part of.
So here we are, fully in it, figuring it out as we go, and giving this thing our best shot. If you’ve got a story that needs to be told, let’s make something rad together.
